F.A.C.E. EVENTS

April 18 2008

Last August, Mike Gilbert was in Halifax at the Firefit National Combat Challenge and briefly spoke with Scott Gibson, a professional Halifax firefighter. Scott showed his support and purchased a FACE t-shirt. In September Scott contacted me and we have been corresponding with each other ever since. We got into some good conversations via email and no punches were pulled on any questions. Recently Scott asked me, “How will I know if you should die before I ever get the chance to meet you?” I answered as best I could.

The other day my wife came home with someone who wanted to meet me. Scott Gibson was standing beside my wife. Scott didn't like my answer I guess and proceeded to tell his wife and children he will be gone for a couple of days as he was coming to Ontario to meet me. He told me he was here because his FACE t-shirt was got ripped and he needed a new one.

Scott stayed a couple of days with us sharing many stories. I am so touched by your actions Scott. It's just what we do out East, he said. I will never forget this. This speaks loud and clear on what bonding and camaraderie we as firefighters really do have.

Thanks Scott, I can't begin to tell you how much it means to me what you have shown all of us.

In October of 07, Rod MacDonald from East River Fire Company in PEI set up a booth and helped introduce FACE to the fire departments in the Atlantic Provinces.   This task was solely taken on by Rod.

Rod MacDonald's wife Sandra went to country singer George Canyon's concert held in Charlottetown PEI in November 2007. She approached George and informed him of FACE. She then proceeded to give him one or our t-shirts. George said he would wear it and graciously signed an autograph for me. George who came from Nova Scotia used to be a volunteer firefighter in Pictou County before he became famous.

We did many Combat Challenge events throughout Ontario , Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces . The International was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia with one of our board members and also a competitor representing FACE.
