My name is Tim Catterall.  For the last 22 years I have been employed as a professional firefighter in Burlington, Ontario, Canada and a proud member of the Burlington Professional Firefighters Association Local 1552. In November 2004, at the age of 48, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Being diagnosed with cancer changes many lives, not only for those that have the cancer but their friends and families as well. At first I didn’t want anyone to know about my disease and I really don’t know why.Was it because I felt guilty and thought it was my fault that this happened to me? Did I think others would now look at me differently? I was unsure of the answers to these questions, so I stayed quiet.  With time and gained knowledge of my disease, accepting what had happened to me brought on the desire to help other people in similar situations. I started by selling wristbands for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Friends and family stepped up and supported me in my endeavor.

The September 21st Date PDF Print E-mail

Why did we pick September 21? When we first introduced F.A.C.E., it was at the International Extrication Competition held in Burlington, Ontario during the week of September 21, 2006. We need a day to call our own so everyone will know on this day that firefighters from around the globe are standing together to fight a deadly disease.

The F.A.C.E. Logo PDF Print E-mail

A logo is not just a visual representation of that which it stands for, but rather it is a symbol that holds meaning and cause. It was once said that only by means of our awareness do things come into being. We are normally unaware of something until it matters to us. You may wonder why a foundation using the acronym F.A.C.E. chose a silhouette as its logo. Hopefully, the silhouette will take on a face that means something special to anyone who looks at it. It represents all of us who are afflicted, all who are not, and all who cannot be with us. The axe is cutting into the existence of cancer and will not stop until this evil disease is no more. When you see our logo, think of someone you love, cherish or respect and help support them by supporting F.A.C.E.

Our Mission Statement PDF Print E-mail

The career of a firefighter is a dangerous profession.  Cancer is a possibility we do not want to accept. More and more, cancer is taking away good people before their time.  F.A.C.E. is a unified community of firefighters dedicated to raising and contributing money to support top research groups and institutions to help us conquer this disease, especially the cancers affecting firefighters.
